The ICF is an international non-governmental nonprofit world organisation for multidiscipline canoeing and paddling activities. On 19 January 1924 the Internationale Repräsentantenschaft Kanusport (IRK) was formed in Copenhagen, Denmark, and it became the ICF in 1946.
The ICF is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), as the sole controlling body for international canoeing and paddling.
