The IFBB was declared non-compliant with the World Anti-Doping Code by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in October 2022. The non-compliance is the result of non-conformities in implementing an effective testing program and devoting sufficient resources to the development of a compliant anti-doping program in all mandatory areas, as WADA states.
WADA indicated that IFBB’s reinstatement would require the support of an independent third party approved by the anti-doping governing body and the fulfilment of the conditions necessary to reach this status again.
The IFBB has sought this support from the ITA as an independent anti-doping organisation with expertise in the delivery of Code-compliant clean sport programs for 60 International Federations and Major Event Organisers. Upon receiving this request, the ITA has now liaised with the IFBB and WADA to assess the areas of Code non-conformities. The ITA will aim to support the federation with its know-how and expertise to work towards the reinstatement of the IFBB as a fully compliant Code Signatory.
The assessment and decision as to whether the IFBB has satisfactorily met the required conditions remains the exclusive responsibility of WADA in accordance with the International Standard for Code Compliance by Signatories (ISCCS).
