On 1 July 2024, the ITA, on behalf of United World Wrestling (UWW), notified the athlete that a sample collected from him by the ITA during an out-of-competition anti-doping control on 28 May 2024 had returned an adverse analytical finding¹ for Trimetazidine, a non-specified prohibited substance under the Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The athlete was provisionally suspended with immediate effect.²
Trimetazidine is prohibited under both the 2024 and 2025 WADA Prohibited lists as a metabolic modulator (S.4.4). It is prohibited at all times (in-competition and out-of-competition).
Following the results management process conducted by the ITA, the ITA submitted the matter for adjudication to CAS ADD.
On 24 February 2025, and further to a fully-fledged hearing process during which the ITA represented UWW, CAS ADD found that the athlete had committed an ADRV for the presence and use of a prohibited substance in accordance with Articles 2.1/2.2 of the UWW anti-doping rules.
As a result, CAS ADD has imposed a four-year period of ineligibility on Rıza Kayaalp from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2028. Additionally, all results obtained by the athlete from 28 May 2024 ongoing forward are disqualified.
The athlete and the relevant stakeholders, namely UWW/ITA, the World Anti-Doping Agency and the Turkish National Anti-Doping Organisation, have a right to appeal the CAS ADD decision before the appeals division of the CAS.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
