The proceedings concerned an anti-doping rule violation for the use and possession of a prohibited substance in connection with the 2022 Giro d’Italia. The case was based in part on evidence provided by the Spanish Guardia Civil and the Spanish Anti-Doping Organisation (CELAD) to the ITA in the context of Operation “Ilex”.
The Federal Tribunal confirmed that the CAS panel was entitled to rely on this evidence and noted the role of cooperation between public authorities and anti-doping organisations in the fight against doping.
The disciplinary and related legal proceedings in this case took place before Results Management for cycling was delegated to the ITA in February 2026.
The ITA welcomes the confirmation of the important role that cooperation between public authorities and anti-doping organisations can play in protecting clean sport.
