The ITA reports that weightlifter Alexandra Georgiana Curt has been sanctioned with a four-year period of Ineligibility for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under Article 2.3 of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Anti-Doping Rules (IWF ADR) which prohibits evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection without compelling justification. The circumstances of the ADRV arise from a target testing mission led by the ITA where the athlete left the premise before providing a sample and without compelling justification.
The sanction was issued by the ITA on behalf of IWF in accordance with article 8.3.3 of the IWF Anti-Doping Rules (and equivalent provision in the World Anti-Doping Code).¹ The period of ineligibility is effective from 8 February 2022 (date of the anti-doping rule violation) until 7 February 2026 and the athlete’s results have been disqualified from 8 February 2022 onwards.
¹ When an athlete does not challenge the assertion of an ADRV and does not request a hearing, anti-doping organisations have the possibility to issue a written decision sanctioning the athlete and imposing the applicable consequences without having to refer the case to a hearing panel. This is provided in articles 8.3.2 and 8.3.3 of the IWF Anti-Doping Rules and article 8.3 of the World Anti-Doping Code.
