The ITA and USADA have maintained a close working relationship for several years, formalising their cooperation in 2019 to facilitate joint testing and investigative activities. The renewed agreement builds upon this foundation, providing a structured framework for the exchange of information and operational coordination to serve a broad athlete population across the United States.
“This renewed agreement underscores the mutual trust and professionalism that define our relationship with USADA,” said ITA Director General Benjamin Cohen. “By strengthening our coordination in critical areas such as testing, training, and information sharing, we are reinforcing our shared commitment to fair play and athlete protection. As the global sport community prepares for LA28, this partnership ensures that our collective efforts remain rigorous, athlete-focused, and aligned with the highest international standards.”
“The ITA are trusted partners in the fight for clean sport, and we welcome every opportunity to strengthen our collaboration, especially in the lead up to the Olympic Games coming to Los Angeles in 2028,” said USADA CEO Travis T. Tygart. “The transparency and diligence that define this partnership are essential to our shared ability to deliver a level playing field to clean athletes now and in 2028.”
Under the new agreement, the organisations will continue to collaborate on sample collection and information sharing, while working jointly to enhance operational standards. As part of this, USADA’s Doping Control Officers (DCOs) will continue to access the ITA’s globally recognised International Doping Control Officer (IDCO) Training Program, complementing USADA’s existing training protocols and fostering consistency with international standards. The ITA will likewise ensure alignment with U.S. certification and operational requirements.
