Clean Sport on track: The International Motorcycling Federation joins forces with the International Testing Agency

The FIM is the governing body for all matters connected with motorcycling activities, founded in 1904. 121 National Federations across the world, regrouped in 6 Continental Unions are affiliated to the FIM. As part of its ongoing efforts to ensure integrity, fairness and health in motorcycling sport and for its pilots, the FIM has decided to delegate areas of its anti-doping program to the ITA for independent expert handling.

The ITA will be responsible for the coordination of in-competition and out-of-competition doping controls for the FIM, including independent test distribution planning.

The management of Athlete Biological Passports (ABPs) of motorcycle sports pilots and the processing of Therapeutic Use Exemptions (TUEs) are also handled by the ITA. In addition, it will strengthen the FIM’s anti-doping efforts with a long-term sample retention strategy that will allow selected samples to be stored and re-analysed for up to ten years after the date of collection. The ITA is also responsible for the whereabouts administration and the handling of whereabouts failures for individual motorcycle pilots.

All clean sport activities on behalf of the FIM will be conducted by the ITA in strict compliance with the World Anti-Doping Code and its international standards, with the ITA’s dedicated Regulatory Compliance Unit ensuring full compliance with all mandatory rules.

The ITA will organise, manage, conduct and handle In and Out-of-Competition Testing and Therapeutic Use Exemptions. Our respective teams are already working together to implement the transition. This collaboration with the International Testing Agency represents a significant step forward in our collective efforts to ensure that our sport remains clean, fair, true to its values and promotes the health and safety of our riders”.
