The IDCO Training Program enables existing trained DCOs who are currently working at local or national level to attain an advanced, international ITA Certification that allows them to promote quality testing around the world. ITA-certified IDCOs will be trusted experts in the professional, operational and World Anti-Doping Code compliance aspects required to deliver out-of-competition and competition testing programs at international sporting events such as international championships, Olympic Games, and other major events.
The ITA IDCO Training Program has been developed by a team of international experts in the area of sample collection and doping control officer training. The program builds on these fundamentals by developing the skills that IDCOs need to work with international athletes at major events.
The program includes a framework of continued professional development aimed at demonstrating ongoing competency and current knowledge. This ensures that all ITA Certified IDCOs are up to date with current international standards and practices.
Every two years, IDCOs will be required to renew their certification by submitting evidence of ongoing professional development and current experience, and the ITA will support IDCOs to do this.
ITA Certification is awarded to the IDCO on successful completion of the course and an online examination.
A unique, secure identity card will be issued to the ITA Certified IDCO, and this card must be used during testing missions conducted on behalf of the ITA. This gives international athletes reassurance that the IDCO collecting their sample has undergone trusted professional training.
The course content focuses on the advanced professional and team management skills required in the elite sports setting, and the effective approaches to communication that supports athletes throughout the testing process. The online learning component covers the core, mandatory processes required according to the WADA International Standards
We want the program to be as inclusive as possible and be offered to Doping Control Officers from all over the world who wish to be active on the international stage. If you are eligible, you will have the opportunity to participate in the IDCO Training Program through events run locally by the ITA in close cooperation with your Anti-Doping Organisation. Access to course materials, face-to-face training, examination and certification is free to all participating Doping Control Officers.
The ITA partners with Regional and National Anti-Doping Organisations, International Federations and Sample Collection Agencies to deliver the training.
The ITA is proud to welcome Berlinger AG, the world leader in the manufacturing of kits for doping controls, as the Official Partner of the ITA IDCO Training Program.
