The Law on Physical Culture of 3 June 1984 prohibits the use of pharmaceuticals and other doping substances in sport. On 16 November 1989, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Poland signed the Anti-Doping Convention of the Board of Europe. The Convention was ratified by the President of the Republic of Poland on 3 July 1990. The Convention is a comprehensive, international agreement aimed at combating the use of prohibited means and methods by athletes. Ratification of the Convention means that the authorities of the Republic of Poland have assumed responsibility for combating doping in Poland.
