The sample was collected from wrestler Yu Chol Ro during an out-of-competition testing mission conducted by the ITA on 13 March 2025, and had initially returned an Atypical Finding¹ (ATF) for the specified prohibited substance furosemide (classified as S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents according to the Prohibited List of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)).
As required by the WADA stakeholder notice regarding potential diuretic contamination cases (WADA Stakeholder Notice)², the ITA conducted an investigation to determine whether or not the ATF was caused by inadvertent contamination from a pharmaceutical product taken by the athlete prior to sample collection. However, the athlete was unable to establish that the ATF was a result of pharmaceutical contamination, and therefore the ATF is being pursued as an AAF under Articles 2.1 (presence of a prohibited substance) and 2.2 (use of a prohibited substance or a prohibited method) of the UWW Anti-Doping Rules.
The athlete has requested the analysis of the B-sample. If the B-sample analysis confirms the result of the A-sample, the case will proceed as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. The athlete has the opportunity to present his explanations for the positive result.
Furthermore, the athlete has been provisionally suspended until the resolution of the matter pursuant to Article 7.4.2 of the UWW Anti-Doping Rules. He has the right to challenge the imposition of the provisional suspension and request its lifting.
Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments during the ongoing proceeding.
