The ITA reports that a sample collected from Nayive Medina Pulgarin, a weightlifter from Colombia, during an in-competition testing mission conducted by the South American Sports Organization on 14 September 2026, has returned an AAF¹ for metenolone. The test was carried out in the scope of the 2026 South American Games, which took place in Rosario, Santa Fé and Rafaela, Argentina, from 12 to 26 September 2026.
The matter will first be processed pursuant to the Anti-Doping Rules applicable to the 2026 South American Games for a determination on the apparent Anti-Doping Rule Violation and, as applicable, the disqualification of results obtained by the athlete at the event. Thereafter, the matter will be referred to IWF for its determination on the consequences under the IWF Anti-Doping Rules, including any period of ineligibility.
Metenolone is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S1.1 Anabolic Androgenic Steroids. It is classified as a non-specified substance and prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition). Metenolone stimulates muscle growth and assists the recovery after strenuous effort.
The athlete has been informed of the case and, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and Article 7.4.1 of the IWF Anti-Doping Rules, a mandatory provisional suspension has been imposed on the athlete. The athlete has the right to challenge the provisional suspension and ask for its lifting.
Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments made.
¹ A report from a WADA-accredited laboratory that, consistent with the International Standard for Laboratories, establishes in a sample the presence of a prohibited substance or its metabolites or markers or evidence of the use of a prohibited method.
