The ITA reports that a sample collected in-competition on 17 July 2026 during the Asian Championships 2026 from Amer Alhajri, a ju-jitsu athlete from Kuwait, has returned an AAF¹ for several prohibited substances, including 19-NA, anastrozole and metabolites of drostanolone and tamoxifen.
Drostanolone and 19-NA are listed under section S1.1 “Anabolic Androgenic Steroids” of the 2026 WADA Prohibited List, anastrozole is listed under section S4.1 “Aromatase Inhibitors”, and tamoxifen is listed under section S4.2 “Anti-Estrogenic Substances”. All of these substances are prohibited at all times, both in- and out-of-competition, and are classified as non-specified substances.
Anabolic androgenic steroids such as drostanolone and 19-NA may enhance performance by increasing muscle strength, mass, and accelerating recovery. Aromatase inhibitors and anti-estrogenic substances such as anastrozole and tamoxifen may be used to modulate hormone levels and support the effects of anabolic steroid use.
The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample.
If the B-sample analysis is requested and confirms the result of the A-sample, the case will be considered as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. If the B-sample analysis is not requested, the case will also go ahead as a confirmed anti-doping rule violation. The athlete will have the opportunity to present his explanations for the result.
Further, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code and article 7.4.1 of the JJIF Anti-Doping Rules, a mandatory provisional suspension has been imposed on the athlete. He has the right to challenge the provisional suspension and request its lifting.
Pursuant to JJIF’s delegation of its anti-doping program to the ITA, the prosecution of the case is being handled entirely by the ITA. Given that the case is underway, there will be no further comments made.
