In 2025, the ITA collected 41,770 samples from 17,300 athletes. Behind these figures lies a year of sustained, expert-led work to protect athletes and uphold the integrity of competition, delivered across disciplines, time zones and cultures.
“Trust in clean sport is built every day, through work that must be rigorous even when it is unseen,” said Benjamin Cohen, ITA Director General. “The world measures sporting achievement in fractions of a second. What it rarely sees is the infrastructure behind those moments: the testing programs designed months in advance, the intelligence assessments developed quietly behind the scenes, the medical and scientific review processes, and the education initiatives reaching athletes before they step onto a field of play.”
The 2025 Annual Report reflects the breadth of this work, from sample collection and independent results management to Whereabouts assessment, Athlete Biological Passport monitoring, Therapeutic Use Exemption processes, compliance support, clean sport education and workforce training. In 2025, the ITA delivered anti-doping programs for over 80 partners and conducted testing across 1,370 international sport events.
The report also shows the scale of the ITA’s case management and scientific activities. In 2025, the organisation processed 483 potential anti-doping rule violations, handled 892 Therapeutic Use Exemption applications, and continued to manage the world’s largest Athlete Biological Passport program, supporting more targeted and intelligence-led anti-doping work on behalf of its partners.
Education remained a core part of the ITA’s athlete protection mission. In 2025, ITA clean sport education activities reached more than 14,000 international-level athletes and athlete support personnel, while ITA webinars attracted more than 15,000 attendees across over 200 countries.
In parallel, the ITA Academy continued to support the professional development of the clean sport workforce, providing training for anti-doping practitioners and officials involved in the delivery of anti-doping programs.
The ITA also laid the preparatory work for its 80 partners in preparation for the 2027 World Anti-Doping Code review and continued to strengthen governance and compliance, including the launch of a Compliance and Ethics Hotline, ethics and compliance training for officials, and the successful completion of ISO audits for quality management and information security.
The 2025 report marks an important moment in the ITA’s institutional development. Eight years after its establishment, the organisation has evolved from a new model for independent anti-doping delivery into a trusted partner for clean sport worldwide.
“When the ITA was established in 2018, independence in anti-doping was an ambition more than a reality,” said Dr Valérie Fourneyron, Chair of the ITA Foundation Board until the end of 2025. “What this report reflects is how far that ambition has travelled. The ITA has grown into an organisation that more than 80 partners trust to manage their anti-doping programs. That trust is not given. It is built, year by year, through discipline, fairness and an unwavering commitment to the athletes we serve.”
For the first time, the ITA Annual Report is presented in an online format, providing athletes, partners, media and the wider public with a clearer and more accessible overview of the organisation’s work and impact.
