Following the IFBB’s delegation of its anti-doping program to the ITA earlier this year, education became an important pillar of the partnership. The ITA introduced tailored education initiatives for IFBB athletes and their support personnel, aimed at strengthening the understanding of anti-doping rules and responsibilities across the sport.
At Santa Susanna, the ITA’s education efforts included a two-day education booth offering practical guidance on ADRVs, athlete’s rights and responsibilities, the Prohibited List, and how to check medications. In addition, ITA educator Anita Hartung delivered a presentation during the Team Managers & Judges Meeting, sharing essential knowledge required for athletes to remain compliant with anti-doping rules and offering practical, real-life advice to common anti-doping questions. The strong engagement confirmed the value of direct education at major events, which is a practical step toward building awareness and trust.
IFBB President Rafael Santonja emphasized the importance of the collaboration:
“Our partnership with the International Testing Agency is a key pillar of the IFBB’s commitment to clean sport. We sincerely appreciate the ITA’s dedication, expertise and excellent cooperation in the coordination of all testing and educational activities. Their guidance reinforces transparency and strengthens the trust of our athletes and the global IFBB community.”
Highlighting the role of education in safeguarding the sport, he added:
“All anti-doping controls at this event were conducted by the ITA, and the educational activities have been managed with outstanding professionalism by Anita. Her sessions have been extremely clear, didactic and impactful. Education plays a vital role in modern sport, helping guide our national federations, who in turn guide our young athletes and ensure the long-term protection and integrity of our sport.”
The ITA and IFBB will continue to build on the progress made in Santa Susanna. The goal is to ensure that every athlete and support personnel has the knowledge and resources needed to uphold clean sport. This shared commitment is essential for protecting the integrity of bodybuilding and fitness over the long term.
