The ITA confirms that Eman Hany Mohamed has been suspended with a two-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for furosemide (classified under “S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents” as per the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List).
Furosemide is prohibited under the WADA Prohibited List as S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents. It is prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition) and is classified as a specified substance. Furosemide can be used by athletes to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
The positive sample was collected by the ITA as part of an in-competition doping control on 2 June 2024 during the 2024 African Sambo Championships, Cairo, Egypt.
Following the results management process, the ITA issued a decision¹ sanctioning Eman Hany Mohamed with a two-year period of ineligibility, from 16 April 2025 until 15 April 2027, and disqualifying her competitive results at the 2024 African Sambo Championships, Cairo, Egypt and from 2 June 2024 until 16 April 2025.
The decision is subject to appeal before the appeals division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in accordance with Article 13.2.3 of the FIAS ADR.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
¹ When an athlete does not challenge the assertion of an ADRV and does not request a hearing, anti-doping organisations have the possibility to issue a written decision sanctioning the athlete and imposing the applicable consequences without having to refer the case to a hearing panel. This is provided in articles 8.3.2. and 8.3.3. of the FIAS Anti-Doping Rules and 8.3 of the World Anti-Doping Code.
