The ITA confirms that Andres Mauricio Moreno Bedoya has been suspended with a two-year period of ineligibility after testing positive for furosemide. Furosemide is prohibited under the World Anti-Doping Agency Prohibited List as S5 Diuretics and Masking Agents. It is prohibited at all times (in- and out-of-competition) and is classified as a specified substance. Furosemide can be used by athletes to excrete water for rapid weight loss.
Following the results management process conducted by the ITA, the ITA submitted the matter for adjudication to CAS ADD. After hearing the parties and considering the written submissions and evidence, on 25 April 2025, CAS ADD issued its final award holding that the athlete had committed ADRVs for the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance in accordance with Articles 2.1/2.2 of the World Taekwondo anti-doping rules (WT ADR).
As a result, CAS ADD has imposed a two-year period of ineligibility on Andres Mauricio Moreno Bedoya from 25 April 2025 to 24 April 2027. Additionally, all results obtained by the athlete on 3 July 2022 at the WT Pan Am Series 2 in Heredia, Costa Rica, where the athlete provided the positive sample, and from 3 July 2022 onwards, have been disqualified.
Parties with a right of appeal may challenge the decisions before the appeal division of CAS in accordance with article 13.3.2 of the WT ADR.
The ITA will not comment further on this case.
