The ITA reports on its investigative and prosecutorial activities concerning the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation

PAKISTANI WEIGHTLIFTERS SHARJEEL BUTT, ABDUR REHMAN, GHULAM MUSTAFA AND FARHAN AMJAD HAVE EACH BEEN SANCTIONED WITH A PERIOD OF INELIGIBILITY OF 4 YEARS FOR AN ANTI-DOPING RULE VIOLATION (ADRV), COMMITTED IN NOVEMBER 2021. ATHLETE SUPPORT PERSONNEL WAQAS AKBAR (COACH) AND OFFICIAL AMJAD AMIN BUTT (VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE PAKISTAN WEIGHTLIFTING FEDERATION) HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH ADRVS COMMITTED IN NOVEMBER 2021. OFFICIAL HAFIZ IMRAN BUTT (PRESIDENT OF THE PAKISTAN WEIGHTLIFTING FEDERATION) AND IRFAN BUTT (COACH) HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF APPARENT ADRVS COMMITTED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2014 AND NOVEMBER 2016.

1 According to Article 12.3 of the IWF ADR and provisions of the IWF OQS, member federations can be suspended, fined and/or have other rights withdrawn (including quotas for participating in the Olympic Games) when three or more athletes, officials or athlete support personnel of the member federation are found to have committed ADRVs within a 12-month period. The Article 12.3 cases are being referred to the IMFSP in August 2024 as the ITA first needed to complete all its investigative actions prior to referring the case.
