The ITA imposes a 6-month sanction on Canadian Lacrosse player Madalyn Baxter

In accordance with Article 14.3 of the World Lacrosse Anti-Doping Rules (WL ADR), the ITA, on behalf of World Lacrosse, hereby reports that Canadian athlete Madalyn Baxter has committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) under Article 2.1 of the WL ADR – Presence of a Prohibited Substance or its Metabolites or Markers.

More precisely, a sample collected from Madalyn Baxter on 16 July 2022, at the 2022 Birmingham World Games, returned an Adverse Analytical Finding for the prohibited substance Canrenone. Canrenone is classified as a specified Diuretic and Masking Agent on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list and is prohibited at all times.

The athlete was able to establish that the source of the prohibited substance was through the therapeutic use of a medication prescribed to her by her dermatologist for the treatment of acne. The ADRV was deemed not intentional and accordingly, the player was entitled to a reduced sanction.

The case was resolved via an acceptance of consequences pursuant to Article 8.3.1. of the WL ADR. The athlete accepted a sanction of a 6-month period of ineligibility from 16 July 2022 until 15 January 2023. The athlete’s individual results from 16 July 2022 onwards have also been disqualified. However, the results of the Canadian Lacrosse team at the Birmingham World Games are not subject to disqualification.
